You are, without question, the best poster on this forum Road.

I'd insist you were on a wind up were it not for you being so sincere.

I could never gve up meat, but I could quite easily go a couple of days without eating it. Sometimes we get Gousto and there are some great vegetarian and even vegan dishes in there.

I think it is a good idea to cut down on meat, especially red meat. I like it too much to stop completely though, and life is too short to deprive yourself of the finer things.

Re: Veganism and vegetarianism
Probably been mentioned on the thread before but Ill let the late great Anthony Bourdain sum it up for me

“Vegetarians, and their Hezbollah-like splinter-faction, the vegans, are a persistent irritant to any chef worth a damn.

To me, life without veal stock, pork fat, sausage, organ meat, demi-glace, or even stinky cheese is a life not worth living.

Vegetarians are the enemy of everything good and decent in the human spirit, an affront to all I stand for, the pure enjoyment of food. The body, these waterheads imagine, is a temple that should not be polluted by animal protein. It's healthier, they insist, though every vegetarian waiter I've worked with is brought down by any rumor of a cold.

Oh, I'll accomodate them, I'll rummage around for something to feed them, for a 'vegetarian plate', if called on to do so. Fourteen dollars for a few slices of grilled eggplant and zucchini suits my food cost fine.”

Classic!

The dairy industry is no better (or worse) than the meat industry.

Two rib-eyes getting seared to fuck in my pan right now. Aldi’s finest so quite possible ex-Aintree but as hunger is the best sauce and I’m starving, I’m not bothered what animal stood on those four legs

Re: Veganism and vegetarianism
I'm veggie on moral grounds and only semi Kosher, don't eat pork or shellfish but don't only eat food from a kosher kitchen. I do occasionally eat fish for health reasons and I do enjoy a tuna steak and fish and chips. We go to Shul on the high holidays and about 5 times a year otherwise.
Not that religious and wasn't until I met the wife who wanted to convert with no pressure at all from me. So she converted to Reform Judaism and had to follow the basic rules for 2 years and it's kinda stuck as it's not a big deal. We have eases off a lot on lighting candles at the exact time on a Fri night and saying prayers though we generally still do it if we are at home. Reform is very relaxed as you can drive, post on WHO, & go to football obviously and do all the normal stuff over the Sabbath. The idea is that it's a more realistic modern form of the religion. Bit of a cheat arguably, on the scale of religious, 0 being athiest, 1-5 most people and 10 orthodox, I suppose I'm a 6 or 7?

Horse meat isn't Kosher.

It's sad to see anyone claimed by religion.

Hey, Road.

When I smell bacon in the pan or a sirloin steak caramelising beautifully on the griddle, my tummy rumbles with hunger and I salivate in anticipation.

Does the same thing happen to you when you mow the lawn?

Is that a pet name for your partner?

Re: Veganism and vegetarianism
When I ate meat I ate horse meat in Paris and it was very tasty. However my point refered to the horse meat scandal where people were unknowingly eating it as it was being snuck into meat products that were supposed to be beef or lamb, and the general poor quality of meat.

Funniest thing about that scandal is all the rabid mad cow meat eaters excusing and defending it,seemingly not bothered that they were received into eating horse and rancid horse at that when they thought it was beef etc.. rather admit how disgusting the industry is. Could have been hippo cock and they would still have defended it...."ooooh lovely that, tastes just chicken"

True Pee Wee. As a rule I only eat vegetarian animals, so that kinda makes me a bit of a vegetarian.

Re: Veganism and vegetarianism
Friday night kebab is a great shout.

But you mention horse meat as if that would be a bad thing to get. I've never seen the issue with it. Bit weird that people are fine eating cow, pig and lamb but find horse offensive.

Re: Veganism and vegetarianism
Why not pop down the local Kebab or Chikiiiin shop for a little snack too, go on you know you can shovel a bit more in. You migjt be lucky and get some meat or horse in there too.

Couldn't decide if I wanted a cheese and pickle sandwich, or a ham and mustard sandwich for lunch.

Brenty's post has helped persuade me to go for the ham.

Re: Veganism and vegetarianism
Put it anyway you like but it's nothing to do with preacy vegetarians or vegans.
Fact is the meat industry is disgusting. It's your choice to make animals suffer and then die just because they taste good.
